What is Worldprofit?

Today a prospective customer asked me, "What is Worldprofit?"

Although I've been answering this question since 1994, it dawned on me that while the question has stayed constant, the answer has evolved over the last 15 years (much like the web itself). And since we are entering into a new year (2010), I thought I would take a long hard look at both the question and the answer. Indulge me if you will in a brief history, I promise I will keep it short.

In August 1994, three people came together over a kitchen table in Edmonton, Alberta to start a web company. Those people were Dr. Jeffrey Lant a former Harvard Professor and business author; George Kosch a former Jet Pilot instructor in the Canadian Air Force; and Sandi Hunter, a former Educator, and Behavior Analyst. The company was named Worldprofit Inc. Worldprofit started operations the same year that another yet unknown company was setting up shop, Yahoo. Have you heard of them? (Smile)

The core services of Worldprofit have always been web-based: website hosting, website design, and software development. But over the years these core IT services became the back bone for a company that expanded to provide specialized support, education, training and resources for small and home based business owners around the world. Early on we realized that the web offered unlimited opportunities for people who wanted to buy and sell in the world marketplace. These people needed core technical services to get online, but more than that they needed help to navigate, utilize, and profit from the mind-boggling number of resources available to build their own successful online business. As the web and technology changed, Worldprofit also continued to change to meet the needs of our customers. We owe appreciation to our Worldprofit Members, now exceeding 500,000, as we helped them they have helped us build a better company with a customer-centered service mandate.

So to answer the question, What is Worldprofit? My answer in 1994 would be very different than my response today. Here goes...

Worldprofit Inc, a Canadian company continues to offer website hosting, design and development, but the primary services have evolved into support of the small and home business owner. This support includes what our online experience has proven are critical to building a successful online business. 5 Critical Keys to Creating a Landing Or Capture Page to Get the Results You Want!

Landing Pages are also called Capture Pages and sometimes Splash Pages. The purpose is always the same, to convert a reader into a lead. Landing pages are usually a few lines of copy or a pitch and a contact information form. If people are interested they fill out the form to get more details on what you have to offer. Landing pages are usually a short page that people land on when they respond to a post or advertising link you have placed online.

Put simply, people read your Landing page and are either not interested and click away or, are interested, respond and provide you with their contact information. They do this in exchange for receiving information on your offer, product or services.

We have built Landing Pages for our own purposes to promote our offers but we have also built Landing Pages for our customers. When building a Landing Page never forget your #1 purpose - to get a lead! It doesn't matter what kind of business you are in, you need a steady supply of leads. Landing Pages are an effective way to do this and in some cases produce better results than a website. Landing Pages allow you to target a specific niche with a very specific offer while most websites are usually more generic in focus and broad reaching. These are the 5 Critical Points you MUST include in your Landing Page if you are going to actually get results.

Critical Point # 1 when building a Landing Page
Copy. Use short punchy copy that is heaping with benefits for the reader. Tell people what they are going to get in simple easy to understand terms, make an offer, put value on the offer, limit the offer. Talk directly to the reader with the wording you use.

Example of good copy:

"Our 32 Page Report Tells YOU in Step-By-Step Detail exactly how to get 50,000 Visitors to your website! $29.95 Value! FREE but you MUST act now to get this limited offer!"

Example of poor copy:

"Fill out this form and we will send you a report with information on getting traffic. "


Critical Point # 2 when building a Landing Page

Limit use of graphics. If you do use graphics make sure they are fast loading and only used to emphasize your message. Graphics should be colorful, theme related, and direct the eye to your copy. Graphics and copy should work together to motivate a response.

Critical Point # 3 when building a Landing Page

Include a contact form. Some people don't include a form on their Landing Page, you MUST have a form.Building an online business means building a mailing list of interested people. If you don't collect the contact details of your prospects you are wasting your time and throwing away a valuable marketing advantage.

Critical Point # 4 when building a Landing Page

Include an Offer. Don't TELL on your landing page, SELL on your landing page. Sell the fact that you have something that the buyer wants, something they must have and must get today! Give them the benefits of what the product or service is to motivate action, do this with an offer. Buy this and get that. Buy now, save $ etc. Make your offer interesting, something they simply can't refuse.

Critical Point # 5 when building a Landing Page

Placement. If you are going to make your Landing Page longer than one screen, make sure all your critical information and attention getting copy is on the top of the page so it doesn't get missed. Remember when your English teacher said leave your most powerful points till the end of your essay? Not true, when creating marketing copy. Put your most powerful words and pitch at the very top of the page, drive home the points later on, then yes close with power but make sure the top of your page, the part that loads first is going to draw people in to actually get them to read to the bottom of your page.

There you have it, take these key marketing points down, and make sure to include them when creating your Landing pages.

We had to learn how to do things ourselves. We wrote our own "Dummies Guide to the Internet", we were the "Dummies". Now we share what we have learned with our friends and customers around the world who want to build their own successful home based business. What started as a small website hosting and design firm has grown to a large company that offers education, training, software, advertising and a Reseller Program to small and home based business owners.

Worldprofit's FREE Reminder service was just updated.

Anyone who has ever forgot their spouse's birthday or missed their daughter's dance recital knows how important it is to remember certain important dates.

Worldprofit offers a free reminder service that will email notifications of specific dates in advance, on the day, as a single reminder or an ongoing reminder.

It's easy and free to use.

Worldprofit's Community Site Reaches 1000 Members

The Worldprofit Social Networking site was launched just a few short months ago and has already grown to over 1,000 Members. The focus of the site is on Home Business, resources, tools, strategies and tips on how and what people are doing to build an online business.

Worldprofit Silver and Platinum members, as well as free Associate members are able to network with others with similar interests in building a home business. However, anyone wanting to network and learn from others can join the Worldprofit community site at no cost.

Worldprofit's Free Video Postcards

Several years ago at Christmas, Worldprofit Inc., offered a free video postcard service for military members so they could record a video message and email it to their loved ones. The system was so successful that what was supposed to be a limited time program was continued and offered to the public at no charge.

Says Sandi Hunter, Director of Website Development at Worldprofit.com, "The feedback we received from users was tremendous! They loved the fact that by simply logging on to our website and using a simple webcamera, they could record a personalized message for their loved ones and email it instantly." Sandi added "the site was so popular over Christmas and New Years that we enhanced the service and made it available all year round. Mother's Day produced even more traffic as people logged on to the site to send Mom a video message."

Back in 1994 we built a classified ad system where people could place ads for free. Back then the technology was not what it is today and this site was released long before the biggies like Yahoo came online. We had to remove the site recently as updates were needed and there were some admin problems but we are happy to report we have now released the site again with new and improved features.
